Access to quality health care is of great concern to many Americans, and Vermont is no exception. Coming to the aid of uninsured—and underinsured— Vermonters are nine clinics spread throughout the state which form the Vermont Coalition of Clinics for the Uninsured (VCCU).
VSECU recently donated $1,000 to each of the nine clinics, including the Good Neighbor Health Clinic, White River Junction, so that the VCCU can continue its mission of providing quality health care to Vermonters, regardless of ability to pay. The clinics are supported through fund raising, patient donations, private foundations and state funding and are largely staffed by volunteers.
“Quality health care is fundamental to improving quality of life,” said Yvonne Garand, VSECU’s Business Development officer. “We at VSECU are grateful to the clinics for the uninsured for the vital services they provide to our communities. We applaud the concerned members of the community and medical professionals for their generous donations of their time and skills to help others in need.”
“Without the support of our volunteers, community, and organizations like VSECU,” said Ceil Furlong, case manager for the Good Neighbor Health Clinic, “we could not have provided basic primary and dental care to the more than 6,000 uninsured individuals from Vermont and New Hampshire since we opened our doors in 1992. We really appreciate the generous donation from VSECU and their support to our free clinics and communities. This money will help us buy our patients medications and provide them with the resources they need to live healthier lives.”
